Retired State Police Sgt. Cameron "Cam" Douglas announced Monday he would be a candidate for Ouachita Parish sheriff in the October primary election.

Douglas will vie to succeed Sheriff Royce Toney, who says he won't be a candidate for re-election.

Douglas, who will run as an Independent, declared his candidacy at a news conference at Vantage Tower in downtown Monroe.
