CASA of Northeast Louisiana will host "Grow CASA with Friendships," an event to inform community members about the need for volunteer advocates.

A CASA, or court appointed special advocate, is appointed by a judge to be the voice of an abused or neglected child in the foster care system. Current CASA advocates will share their personal experiences with the CASA program and offer advice on how to better advocate for an abused or neglected child. The event will be held from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, June 9 at 622 Riverside Drive in Monroe. It is open to anyone who would like more information about CASA. Coffee and dessert will be provided.

"The goal of CASA is that each child served will find a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible. Too often, children languish for years in the foster care system, with no hope of finding a permanent home or having a normal childhood. Studies have shown that when a CASA is involved a child's chances of finding a permanent home are doubled," said Adam McDonald, assistant community development coordinator with CASA of Northeast Louisiana.
