Members of the Monroe Jaycees are gearing up for its annual Fourth of July celebration at Forsythe Park.

Family oriented activities are planned.

This year's event will be held from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 2, along the Ouachita River in Forsythe Park. It includes a number of activities for the family, food, shopping opportunities and live music. The event caps off with the fireworks show. The fireworks show typically starts around 9 p.m. and lasts for about 15 minutes.

New this year is a care package drive to gather items to send to U.S. troops overseas.
According to Melinda Robinson with the Monroe Jaycees, people will be able to bring items to be donated to U.S. troops to the July 2 event.
