Through three wars, Lt. Col. R.E. Waller always carried his lucky 1921 silver dollar. He also blessed his plane and its crew members before each mission.

They always returned home safely.

Sure, there might have been a couple of hundred bullet holes peppered through the plane, but they all lived to fly another day.

Out of all the missions his crew flew in World War II, Waller, 91, of Monroe, missed two of them.
