City seeks funding for more beauty work

The city of Monroe will seek $2.6 million in grant funding from the state Department of Transportation and Development for ongoing beautification projects along Louisville Avenue and DeSiard Street.

The Monroe City Council signed off on the grant applications Tuesday during its regular meeting.

If approved for the grants, the city would use the money to bury power lines and add sidewalks as well as for other beautification projects along Louisville Avenue and DeSiard Street in downtown Monroe.
