Official urges PJ to maintain ag activities

Another supporter of the LSU Ag Center Calhoun Research Station hopes the Ouachita Parish Police Jury will consider preserving its existing operations once the land reverts back to the parish.

In early April, the LSU Ag Center announced the Calhoun Research Station would close sometime this year due to budget cuts. The station has been in existence for more than 100 years.

Louis Gaston of the LSU Ag Center in Baton Rouge lobbied the Police Jury during last week's regular meeting to keep agricultural activities in place once the parish resumes control of the facility and land.
