'Big Muddy' won't affect Ouachita

Ouachita Parish shouldn't incur much impact from the rising Mississippi River, which is expected to crest in Vicksburg May 19 at an all-time record high of 57.5 feet.

That's according to John Stringer, executive director of the Tensas Basin Levee District.
The river's crest May 19 at Vicksburg will exceed the 1927 record by 1.5 feet.

However, Stringer said "the levees over there have significant height to accommodate that crest."
