Historic Munholland home celebrates 100th birthday

Local residents have an opportunity to tour one of the oldest homes in Ouachita Parish and celebrate its 100th birthday during a special event Saturday at the Munholland home on Trenton Street.

Currently located at 2409 Trenton St., the home was built in 1911 by John Merritt Munholland, the grandfather of John Ellett, who lives there today with his wife, Jane.

The Elletts have been busy over the past few weeks getting the home ready for its birthday party, which also will serve as a fundraiser for Keep West Monroe Beautiful projects.

"Everybody is invited," said Jane Ellett. "I'm hoping for 200 people. We're not selling tickets or anything, but we'll have a pot where people can donate to West Monroe beautification when they come by."
