Jackson proposes $800k cut With the failure Saturday of a proposed 11.3-mill property tax to fund Ouachita Correctional Center operations, the Ouachita Parish Police Jury will look into privatizing the parish prison. That's according to Police Juror Charles Jackson, who briefly discussed OCC issues Monday during the Police Jury's regular meeting.
Voters on Saturday overwhelmingly opposed the proposed OCC property tax with 6,970 voters, or 76 percent, voting against the measure. Approximately 2,226 voters, or 24 percent, voted in favor of the measure.
According to the Louisiana Secretary of State's office, voter turnout was 9.2 percent in Ouachita in Saturday's election. .....For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
