Citizen staff wins statewide awards The Ouachita Citizen was presented a number of awards Saturday, April 30, at the 131st annual Louisiana Press Association convention in Marksville.
Graphic artist Heather Rogers won first place for best headline, while Sports editor Cody Futrell won an honorable mention for best sports story.
The Citizen also won third place in its respective division for general excellence; honorable mention for best news coverage; third place for best news coverage; and third place for best front page.
The Citizen competes against weekly papers of similar circulation throughout the state. The Advocate (Baton Rouge), American Press (Lake Charles), The Courier (Houma), Ruston Daily Leader, The Livingston Parish News (Denham Springs), the Tri-Parish Times (Houma), Plaquemine Post/South, and the Zachary Plainsman News earned Newspaper of the Year honors in their respective divisions.
