The Ouachita Parish Police Jury approved a redistricting plan on Tuesday during a special-called meeting.

The redistricting proposal for Police Jury districts will be submitted to the U.S. Justice Department next week. The Justice Department must sign off on the redistricting plan for it to be effective for the fall elections when parish voters pick members of the Police Jury.

According to David Creed, executive director of North Delta Regional Planning and Development District, the Louisiana Secretary of State needs Ouachita Parish's redistricting map approved by the Justice Department by Aug. 29 for Police Jury elections to be held on time this fall.
