Ouachita undergoes big changes

Legislative redistricting brought about significant change for Ouachita Parish.

Last week, the Legislature completed a special session on redistricting of legislative and congressional districts. Gov. Bobby Jindal signed the redistricting measures into law last week as well.

To help accommodate the loss of a minority Senate district in the New Orleans area, a new minority district was crafted from Rapides Parish to Grambling in Lincoln Parish. That played a role in Senate District 35 being redrawn to include areas from north Monroe in Ouachita Parish to parts of Lincoln Parish and south through Winn and Grant parishes. From there, District 35 now extends into Rapides where it takes it much of that parish.
