New high school proposed for Calhoun area

Several Calhoun residents have joined with officials with Ouachita Parish Schools to request that the Ouachita Parish Police Jury donate up to 50 acres of land for the construction of a new Calhoun high school.

Dr. Marshall Boyd lobbied the Police Jury Monday during its regular meeting for the proposed land donation.

Earlier this month, LSU Ag Center announced the Calhoun Research Station would close this year due to state budget cuts. The station has been in existence for more than 100 years.
Once the station is closed, approximately 320 acres where the research center is located will revert back to the Police Jury.
