OPPJ vote on redistricting map expected next week

The Ouachita Parish Police Jury delayed voting on a proposed redistricting map so two police jurors could speak with African-American leaders in the community.

Police Jurors Pat Moore and Dr. Ollibeth Reddix, who represent the Police Jury's two minority-majority districts, requested a delay of the vote Monday during the Police Jury's regular meeting.

That request was granted, and the Police Jury most likely will call a special meeting next week to take a final vote on the proposed redistricting map.

Moore and Reddix say they want to talk with Otis Chisley, president of the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, about the proposed redistricting map.
