City considers consolidated billing

The West Monroe Board of Aldermen next month will consider a decade-long proposal to consolidate billing and collection of ad valorem property taxes in Ouachita Parish.

According to Scott Olvey, chief accountant with the city of West Monroe, the proposal is one Ouachita Parish Tax Assessor Rich Bailey has wanted to implement for a number of years.

"The idea is to take all of the property tax notices parish-wide and combine them on one notice issued by the parish," Olvey said. "So, if you have property in the city of Monroe and in the city of Sterlington and out in the parish, you only get one notice, and it would list all of your property. Then, you would pay one time, sending one check to one place."
