ESU welcomes Jeremy Musson On Wednesday, March 23, the guest speaker for the English-Speaking Union was Jeremy Musson, who was visiting from Cambridge, England.
Musson's credentials include a career as an architectural historian, writer and broadcaster. His latest book is "Up and Down Stairs: The History of the English Country House Servants." The power point presentation included photographs of prominent country homes throughout England, illustrating the 600 years of domestic servants in the estates.
In 2005 and 2006, the speaker presented "Curious House Guest," a six-part series on BBC. "Up and Down Stairs" explores some of the elaborate rituals of noble households. Musson was speaking under the auspices of National ESU as an Evelyn Welch speaker.
