LABI warns of tax increases

Once the Legislature wraps up its special session on redistricting later this month, lawmakers must move quickly into the regular session to grapple with a roughly $2-billion revenue shortfall for the 2011-2012 fiscal year, which begins July 1.

While Gov. Bobby Jindal says he will not support raising taxes to shore up the state's finances, expect some legislators to attempt to raise taxes to balance the budget, according to representatives with the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry.

Representatives of LABI talked about state budget issues as well as America's energy policy during a luncheon Tuesday at the West Monroe Convention Center. The event was sponsored by the West Monroe Chamber of Commerce.
