District wants parking spaces for restrooms

Officials with the Monroe Downtown Economic Development District hope to build a public restroom facility in the parking lot of the Ouachita Parish Courthouse Annex.

Members of the Downtown Economic Development District lobbied the Ouachita Parish Police Jury Monday during its regular meeting to allow the group to use state funding to establish a public restroom facility at the parking lot where the Sheriff's Office is located.

Melody Olson, representing the Downtown Economic Development District, said the proposed public restroom facility was part of an effort to turn Monroe's downtown into a river market full of vendors and artisans.
