Redistricting solidifies Monroe at West Monroe's expense

Two plans to redistrict the Louisiana Legislature cleared major hurdles late Tuesday when the House of Representatives and Senate each approved redistricting plans.

The House redistricting plan now moves to the Senate for consideration while the House will entertain the Senate's proposal. Also, lawmakers will begin turning their attention to redrawing Louisiana's congressional districts.

State lawmakers have been meeting in a special session since March 20 to deal with redistricting of state legislative and congressional districts.

Redistricting will bring about major changes in western Ouachita Parish thanks to efforts to preserve a majority white House district based in north Monroe.
