Plan favorable to Alexander advances

U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander's 5th District will remain relatively unchanged if the Legislature approves a redistricting plan advanced by state Sen. Neil Riser.

The Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee approved Riser's congressional redistricting proposal Tuesday. The Legislature convened a special session March 20 to deal with redistricting state legislative and congressional districts.

Alexander said the 5th congressional district will remain "in tact" and take in portions of two new parishes toward southwestern Louisiana under Riser's proposal.
