U.S. Sen. David Vitter believes northeast Louisiana has made significant strides economically over the past decade, but he knows there are many challenges forthcoming.

Vitter spoke Tuesday during an event hosted by the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. The event was held at the Monroe Civic Center with a number of local business leaders in attendance.

"I've been visiting this area for a while now, and I have to say we face enormous challenges because we're still trying to come out of a recession, and we need to create more jobs everywhere, including northeast Louisiana," said Vitter, R-Metairie.
