Annual 'March for Babies' scheduled for May 7

Tamika Cherry says her daughter is alive today thanks to many prayers and the work the local March of Dimes chapter does for the community.

Five years ago, Madison Cherry was born at St. Francis Medical Center, weighing only 3 1/2 pounds. She was born seven weeks premature.

"My husband and I tried for seven years to have a child," Tamika Cherry said. "We went through the whole normal process of what we thought we were supposed to be doing."
"At the end, I started to balloon to three times the size I was," she said. "They put me on bed rest at St. Francis and about four days later they said, `We're losing you and the baby.' We had to have an operation and my husband freaked out."
