Occ deficit expected to hit $2M

A diminishing Department of Corrections inmate population may result in Ouachita Correctional Center posting a higher than anticipated deficit at the end of the 2011 fiscal year.

That's according to parish treasurer Brad Cammack, who informed the Ouachita Parish Police Jury Tuesday that the deficit may be closer to $2 million instead of the original projection of $1.2 million.

Cammack delivered that rosy news during the Police Jury's regular meeting, which was held Tuesday instead of Monday because Monday was a federal holiday. Monday was President's Day.
