Chamber endorses tax propositions

The West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce's board of directors recently agreed to endorse the Ouachita Parish School Board's tax renewals on the April 30 ballot.
Ouachita Parish Schools has three tax measures on the April 30 ballot, two of which are district-wide, while one will be voted on solely by eastern Ouachita Parish voters.

The two district-wide tax renewals are 10-year renewals of existing property taxes.
One of them is a half-cent sales tax that is levied in School Sales Tax District No. 1 for support of the school system. The second one is a 24.15-mills property tax currently levied for operational support of the school system.

Chamber volunteer chairman Johnny Wilbanks said the tax renewals would allow the school district to maintain millage rates at their current level.
