Chapter celebrates anniversary
The Lone Star Chapter of the 11th Air Airborne Division will celebrate the 66th Anniversary of the Los Baņos Raid on Feb. 25-26, at the Wingate by Wyndham in West Monroe.
On Feb. 23, 1944, the 11th Airborne "Angels" liberated over 2,400 Prisoners of War (POWs) in the Philippines without one casualty. The group received the name "Angels" after a nun remarked that the paratroopers "looked like angels from heaven coming to deliver them."
The public is both invited and encouraged to attend the event on Friday afternoon and Saturday.
