River Oaks faces Simpson

The River Oaks Mustangs will begin play in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools AA State Tournament in Brookhaven, Miss. on Thursday.

River Oaks will meet Simpson in the first round of the tournament with the tip-off set for 6:30 p.m. The Mustangs took third place at the MAIS South State Tournament last week to advance to the AA State Tournament. The Mustangs opened the tournament with a 56-44 victory over Central Hinds which guaranteed that they would have the chance to play in the AA Tournament this week.

The second round of the South State got much tougher as River Oaks met six-time defending AA champion Brookhaven head-to-head. River Oaks led 19-18 at halftime but the size and strength of Brookhaven overwhelmed the Mustangs in the second half. Brookhaven went on to win the game, 58-45.
