Searcy Library celebrates grand opening

The grand opening for the new Cpl. J.R. Searcy Memorial Library was held Thursday (today) at 5775 Jonesboro Road in western Ouachita Parish.

Roughly one year ago, the Ouachita Parish Police Jury agreed to rename the new western Ouachita Parish library in honor of Searcy, who was mortally wounded in the line of duty on March 4, 2010.

His funeral, held on March 11, 2010, drew hundreds of law enforcement officials and emergency responders from across Louisiana and surrounding states. Thousands of mourners attended Searcy's funeral to pay their respects.
