Official predicts strategic cuts in state spending

For Louisiana to tackle its $1.6 billion revenue shortfall heading into the 2011-2012 fiscal year, officials must focus on shrinking state government and reducing expenditures.

That's according to Commissioner of Administration Paul Rainwater, who spoke to the Monroe Rotary Club late last week. He discussed Louisiana's economy and provided an update on the state budget.

"The reality is this is an opportunity for us to change Louisiana and transform government," Rainwater said. "People say it's the toughest time in the history of the state as it relates to the budget. But, the reality is we're not shying away from it."
