OPPJ, OPSB to seek funds for more 'safe routes'

The Ouachita Parish Police Jury will partner again with Ouachita Parish Schools to seek funding for sidewalk improvements at several local schools.

Ouachita Parish was awarded $300,000 from the Safe Routes to School program in 2008 for improvements at Shady Grove Elementary School in southern Ouachita Parish.

The grant provided $250,000 for infrastructure improvements around the school to allow for a better means for students to walk and ride their bicycles. Another $50,000 was used to educate children about proper safety measures when walking and riding bikes to and from school.
