Local players head to next level

Several local athletes from across Ouachita Parish inked college athletic scholarships Wednesday as they look toward their futures.

At West Monroe High School, five Rebels signed scholarship papers. Quarterback Paul Turner the MVP of the Class 5A state championship game in 2009, signed with the Louisiana State University Tigers.

Turner joins the likes of current NFL stars Bradie James and Andrew Whitworth, who all have graduated from WMHS and became football players at the state's flagship university.
