More than two dozen local residents gathered Monday at the Ouachita Parish Police Jury meeting to ask the Police Jury to ban roadside animal sales.

Rita Tucker, a spokesperson for a group concerned about roadside animal sales, broke down in tears at times as she described the situation many of the animals endure.

"The people who are engaged in the practice of selling animals on the roadside are nothing more than puppy mills on our street corners," Tucker said. "While puppies are the usual offering, this ban should include the sale of any animal on the roadside. No reputable breeder sells their animals on the side of the road."
