Members of Louisiana's congressional delegation is urging the U.S. Department of Energy to move forward in granting a $321 million loan for Next Autoworks to establish a car manufacturing operation in the former Guide Plant in eastern Ouachita Parish.

Next Autoworks, formerly V-Vehicle, has been waiting word since May on its second application for a DOE loan to assist it in its plans to do business in Ouachita.

In March 2010, DOE announced it denied the first loan Next Autoworks sought to establish its automobile manufacturing operation in Ouachita Parish. DOE said it denied the loan due to concerns about the company's financial liability.
