Gardening seminar Jan. 15 A first time event, "Gardening: Steps to Success," is a seminar about a variety of garden-related topics designed for avid gardeners, as well as people who want to know how to start a garden. Sponsored by Northeast Louisiana Master Gardeners and the North Louisiana Agri-Business Council, the seminar will be held on Saturday, Jan. 15, from 7:30 a.m. – noon at the West Monroe Convention Center.
Four speakers include guest speaker Barbara Pleasant, contributing editor to "Mother Earth News" and "The Herb Companion," and formerly "Organic Gardening." Pleasant will cover topics from her most recent books, "The Complete Compost Gardening Guide" and "Starter Vegetable Gardens." She will speak on revolutionary composting methods and how to start a vegetable garden. Pleasant's books will be available for sale at her book signing area.
Three more speakers and their topics are: Dr. Peter Gallagher, Louisiana Tech University, on "Native Plants in the Landscape;" Dr. Buck Bounds, Master Gardener, on "Know Your Soil Type" and "Care for Plants: Fertilizers and Soil Amendments;" Dr. Allen Owings, LSU AgCenter, on "Woody Shrubs and Ornamental Plants in the Landscape," and "What's New for 2011: Results of the Louisiana Trials." .....For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
