Cities await Census figures

The cities of Monroe and West Monroe are expected to post slight decreases in population since the 2000 Census, while the town of Sterlington should show an increase once final population numbers are released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The final population figures for the 2010 Census are expected to be released by the U.S. Census Bureau sometime in February.

The first round of the 2010 Census data was released last week. That data indicated Louisiana will lose one of its seven congressional seats since population growth in the state did not show enough gains compared to other states.
