Oldest WM structure survived war, floods, neglect

Built in 1837 in Old Trenton, By George W. Copley, the house often referred to as the Mize house has certainly withstood the test of time.

George Washington Copley, a native of Delaware County, New York, married in Union Parish on July 20, 1845 to Margaret Ann Larkins.  Three children were born to this union at the home in Old Trenton:  Margaret Marie, Myron and George Bernedette.

Copley was an educated lawyer when he came to Trenton in 1836.  Establishing a successful practice, he won admiration from fellow area attorneys and from that received an appointment as judge of the 12th Louisiana District Court in 1845.  He held this position until his death in 1851.
