Obituary published on Dec. 16, 2010 Lloyd Waldo Chapman Jr. Born in Lake Providence on April 12, 1943, Lloyd Waldo Chapman Jr., age 67, departed on Dec. 18, 2010. He was a resident of Lake Providence. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 23, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Lake Providence. Visitation was held Wednesday. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home of Lake Providence.
Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Waldo Chapman Sr. Survivors include his wife, Betty; stepson, Michael Smith of Monroe; stepdaughter, Beverly Smith of West Monroe; his children from former wife Nancy L. Shell of West Monroe, sons, Michael Kennimer Chapman of Jackson, Miss., Brian Christopher Chapman of Houston, Texas, and daughter, Mary Frances Chapman Bush and husband, Vincent Bush, of Moore, Idaho. Grandchildren are Jacob Christian Bush, Aaron Eugene Bush and Benjamin Lloyd Bush. He is also survived by his mother, Hazel Clara Chapman of Lake Providence; brother, William Edward Chapman of Lake Providence; sister and brother-in-law, Diane Chapman Yokum and Joe Yokum of Ridgeland, Miss.; half sisters, Joy Anne Chapman Barriett of West Monroe and Cecile Chapman Marzula of West Monroe; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Chapman was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Providence. He graduated from the N.L.U. School of Pharmacy in 1968. Along with his brother William Edward Chapman, for 42 years he helped carry on the family legacy of Chapman Drug Company — founded by their father, Lloyd Waldo Chapman Sr.
He was very active in multiple branches of municipal services throughout Lake Providence and East Carroll Parish, including fire chief of East Carroll Rural Fire Protection District for over 48 years; assistant fire chief for the town of Lake Providence; Lake Providence alderman for 16 years; EMT for many years; and more than 30 years as a weather observer for the National Weather Service of Jackson, Miss.
