OPSB ups pay for tutoring, in-services

The Ouachita Parish School Board raised the compensation for teachers who provide after-school tutoring, and increased the payment for teachers who work Saturdays for in-service training.

Superintendent Dr. Bob Webber said schools often need substitute teachers during the school week because classroom teachers are out fulfilling their in-service training. He said school officials wanted to offer better incentives for classroom teachers to take part in the Saturday in-service training that supports classroom instruction.

"We've met to try and develop something to encourage our teachers to come to Saturday in-service that we provide to help teachers," Webber said. "Saturday is their day off and it's understandable they don't want to give it up, so we're trying to find ways to encourage teachers to come on Saturday."
