Construction of a $9 million emergency room expansion at St. Francis Medical Center got under way this week.

The new emergency center will be named the Kitty DeGree Emergency Center after local philanthropist Kitty DeGree, who contributed $1 million toward the ER project.

To alleviate traffic concerns while construction takes place, the city of Monroe announced Monday that Oak Street, from St. John to Jackson streets, will be reversed to a one-way westbound thoroughfare effective Monday, Dec. 6.
