City of Monroe posts surplus

The city of Monroe will have a budget surplus of almost $600,000 for the 2009-2010 fiscal year, according to an audit.

For the sixth consecutive year, the city of Monroe's annual audit will show a budget surplus.
The final official fiscal year 2009-2010 budget surplus was $599,260.

The audit was presented to the Monroe City Council Tuesday, Nov. 23, at its regular meeting.
Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo commended the efforts of the administration's department heads for achieving a budget surplus over the past several years.
