Town of Sterlington officials expect their new wastewater treatment plant to be operational by the first of January.

That's good news to Sterlington Mayor Vern Breland, who said the new treatment plant would greatly benefit the town, which continues to experience growth each year.

Work on the $2-million wastewater treatment plant began in September 2009, but work was halted for some time due to heavy rains that swept through the parish last year.
