Police jury signs off on stimulus funding

The Ouachita Parish Police Jury signed off on two construction projects Tuesday that will utilize roughly $10 million in federal stimulus dollars while creating some 40 permanent jobs along the way.

Last year, the parish received $13.7 million in federal funding as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The act was signed into law by President Obama in February 2009.

With the Police Jury's move Tuesday during its regular meeting, Ouachita Parish became the first in the state to utilize stimulus funding through recovery zone facility bonds.
