Scouting for food

For the past two years, a 7-year-old Mangham boy named Eric has sent the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana his birthday money.

The first year he sent $5, followed by $10 the next year. He wrote a note to food bank officials saying he understood the money was not much, but he hoped it would help the Food Bank in its efforts to feed local families in need.

Food Bank executive director Richard King said the gesture by the little boy went a long way, and helped in ways the boy probably does not understand in light of his age.
