Continuing a year of outstanding programs, the English-Speaking Union met in September with Dr. Trey Berry and "The True Story of Jamestown."

On Oct. 21, "Jane Austen: Her Life and Her Works" was the presentation of Dr. Rick Simmons, a George K. Anding Endowed Professor of English, who is the Director of Honors Program at Louisiana Tech University. He enhanced his talk with a Power Point presentation, including photographs of Austen's home and countryside — taken when the speaker toured England.

Presiding over the meeting was Joan Chardkoff, president. She announced that the next program will be Thursday, Nov. 11, with Dr. Clay Couturiaux as the guest speaker.
