World War II veteran Clyde Lee of West Monroe was honored Wednesday with the highest award the French government can bestow upon a person for service.

Nicolas Sarkozy, president of the French Republic, signed the decree on April 16 to name Lee a Chevalier de la legion d'honneur.

The French Legion of Honor Medal was created by Napoleon in 1802 to acknowledge services rendered to France by persons of great merit and accomplishments.
