Gov. Bobby Jindal re-appointed Ouachita Parish police juror Mack Calhoun to the Sparta Groundwater Conservation District's governing board.

The Sparta Groundwater Conservation District serves to study and survey the groundwater resources in the district regarding issues such as conservation, land surface subsidence and groundwater quality degradation. The board advises the commissioner of conservation based on their findings.

Calhoun, who represents District B on the police jury, has said on numerous occasions that the issues with the Sparta Aquifer were some of the most important matters facing northeast Louisiana today.
