Searcy statue in works

There were days Terry Searcy wasn't sure if the local effort to raise money for a statue of his late nephew, Cpl. J.R. Searcy, would succeed.

Searcy, along with Mark Ouchley and others, have spent months conducting fund-raisers to raise money for the statue, which will be placed at a new parish library that is under construction on La. 34 in western Ouachita Parish.

The library has been named the Cpl. J.R. Searcy Memorial Library in honor of the fallen Ouachita Parish Sheriff's deputy, who was shot in the line of duty in March.
