District retires debt

West Ouachita Sewer District No. 5 has a number of major projects planned over the next four to five years, and some will come with a hefty price tag.

In the meantime, sewer district manager Terry Cox said residents who utilize Sewer District No. 5's services will see lower property taxes now that the district has paid off its 30-year bonds roughly seven years early.

"That accomplishes three things," Cox said. "First and foremost, it saves the taxpayers $585,000. Secondly, it saves us $210,000 in interest. Third, it frees up $164,000 a year in cash flow which we desperately need."
