Trip to China sparks Calloway's interest

While the relationship between the United States and China has been strained for decades, Nell Calloway sees the relationship the two countries developed during World War II as a way to improve relations.

Henry Kissinger once said, "When China becomes strong enough to stand alone, it might discard us. A little later it might even turn against us, if its perception of its interests requires it."

Today, China has emerged as a superpower strong enough to stand alone.

Calloway, the granddaughter of the late Gen. Claire Chennault and director of the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum in Monroe, recently returned from a two-week visit in China.
She toured several major cities in China where statues of Chennault are erected outside museums about his Flying Tigers.
