A West Ouachita High School student was arrested early Friday in connection with a double homicide that occurred late Thursday night in western Ouachita Parish, said Sheriff Royce Toney.

The juvenile was arrested without incident by Ouachita Parish sheriff's deputies while the juvenile was in class at West Ouachita High School.

He will be booked on two counts of second-degree murder, according to Maj. Jason Pleasant. Pleasant said the juvenile currently is being held at Green Oaks Dentention Center.

The sheriff's office would not reveal the name of the juvenile because of his age.

During a late Friday afternoon news conference, Pleasant identified the victims as Johnny Fletcher, 50, and Tammy Fletcher, 41. They are believed to be the juvenile's parents.

"At 11:30 p.m. Thursday night a double homicide occurred in western Ouachita Parish," Toney told The Ouachita Citizen early Friday afternoon.

"It was a family member who committed the homicide," Toney said.

"Then he went to class (at West Ouachita High School) this morning," Toney added.

Toney said the sheriff's office was contacted by a family member of the Fletchers Friday morning upon discovering the Fletcher bodies at 198 Mount Vernon Church Road.

Around that time, the sheriff's office's school resource deputies were called on to handle the arrest of the juvenile at West Ouachita High School.

"Our school resource deputies, who we train for these scenarios, addressed the situation," Toney said. "Our deputies handled it professionally without incident."

Sheriff's deputies secured the area around site of the double homicide on Mount Vernon Church Road.

"We are in the process of securing search warrants for the crime scene," Toney said. "We also want to search the juvenile's locker at West Ouachita High School."

West Ouachita High School and several surrounding middle and elementary schools were placed on lock down for most of Friday morning.

"We got the call about the incident that happened off campus from the sheriff's office, so they got with us and locked down the school," said Dr. Bob Webber, superintendent of Ouachita Parish Schools.

As a precaution, the parish school system also locked down Calhoun elementary and middle schools as well as Woodlawn elementary and middle schools, Webber said.

Classes at West Ouachita High School were cancelled for the remainder of the day.

"We dismissed classes at West Ouachita because a lot of the kids are very upset," Webber said. "Classes will resume on Monday, and we'll have counselors and personnel there to help these students with this difficult situation."

Law enforcement also is investigating a suicide of a West Ouachita High School student who was found dead Friday morning. According to Pleasant, the suicide victim was an aquintance of the juvenile arrested in the double homicide. However, sheriff's office officials say the suicide was unrelated to the double homicide.
