Ouachita Parish Police Jury engineer Tom Holtzclaw says there are some concerns with the proposed FEMA flood maps for Ouachita that need to be addressed before the new maps take effect in 2011.

He recommended the police jury call on FEMA to conduct a detailed study of the area around Bayou DeSiard. Some parish officials have questioned FEMA's findings concerning the area.

For example, Holtzclaw said parish officials looked at the base flood elevation around Frenchmen's Bend, which was established based on the high water elevation reached during the 1991 flood.
